John at computer

I'm a freelance designer, cartoonist, writer, and consultant. I do illustration, graphic design, and Web design; cartoons, feature illustrations, and informational graphics; books, booklets, magazines, and posters; logos, stationery, business cards, press kits, and brochures; and Websites including design and coding. I can do a whole idendity/collateral package or just a single graphic. I'm always interested in new jobs. If you like what you see here and have a design project you'd like to discuss, contact me.

I've been designing professionally for the Web and print since 1995, and illustrating and cartooning since forever. For more information on my career as a designer, see my résumé.

I am also the Information and Collections Specialist at the McMullen Museum of Art at Boston College, where I help to plan, organize, and design exhibitions as well as maintain the Permanent Collection records and the museum's website.

In my many other lives, I've taught creative writing and composition to college students; taught programming and cartooning to middle school students; performed in an improvisational comedy troup; received two master's degrees and half a doctorate; and forgotten how to play the trombone.

I live in Boston with my wife and two children and try to get out now and then. If you'd like to delve into my personal obsessions, visit my personal pages, the ominously titled Pathetic Fallacy.
